Overview
Carmen McCoy serves on the YM&C Labor and Employment Team. As a lifelong believer that education has the power to transform lives and communities, Carmen fights to ensure that educational equity is accessible to all children by enabling schools to focus on what’s most important: advancing their students.
While working with the Boys & Girls Club, Carmen developed a passion for juvenile rights. She earned her B.A. in Political Science/Public Law from the University of California, San Diego, and obtained her J.D. from Tulane University School of Law. During her time at Tulane, Carmen participated in numerous internships, including clerking for the Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court and the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. She also gained valuable experience in education law with the Council for Children’s Rights.
Before joining YM&C, Carmen worked as a Staff Attorney at A Better Balance, a national legal advocacy organization dedicated to promoting workplace justice. In this role, she developed and implemented supportive workplace policies at the national, state, and local levels. Carmen also has experience in client-centered defense and representation, having served as both a public defender post-law school and as a student attorney in the Tulane Juvenile Law Clinic.
A native of Southern California, Carmen is barred in both Louisiana and California. Outside of work, Carmen can usually be found at the beach with her husband, Charles, and her Bluetick Coonhound, Adelaide.
