Overview

Katy Urrea works on the YM&C Charter Development team to assist schools with their charter establishment and renewal and the Litigation team to assist in complex legal research and writing.

Before joining Young, Minney & Corr in 2024, Katy had a 13-year career in school education. She was a math teacher through Teach for America at an independent study school in Los Angeles. She then transitioned into professional development and helped open new schools across the country, training teachers and school site leaders. Katy was then hired by an organization to open a charter school and was a client of YM&C as she wrote and successfully submitted the petition to the district. She was a Learning Forward Academy Member, where she worked with school leaders across the country to create and implement an evidence-based problem of practice.

Katy is currently a student at Seattle University School of Law where she will graduate in 2025. She attends school as a hybrid student at night and is involved with campus activities from afar. She was the Student Bar Association for her class, is a member of the Womxn Law Caucus, and is an Article Editor for the Seattle Journal of Social Justice, overseeing a team of Associate Editors.

Katy received her BA in Political Science and Certificate in Leadership Students from Hollins University. She then earned her MA in Urban Education, Policy and Administration with her Single Subject Secondary Mathematics Credential from Loyola Marymount University.

In her spare time, Katy volunteers with the Tournament of Roses and enjoys running, hiking, gardening, and reading.
