October 8, 2024

Who Should Attend

  • Administrators
  • School Leaders
  • Academic Officers
  • Teachers

In October 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 101, which changed the graduation requirements for all high school students graduating in the 2029-30 school year. Starting with the 2025-26 school year, schools that serve students in grades 9-12 must offer at least one semester of ethnic studies. For many schools, this requirement is new territory and presents many questions regarding how to fulfill the requirement and what type of curriculum is appropriate. This webinar will demystify what the ethnic studies requirement entails and how schools can successfully implement a program that increases student engagement and critical thinking skills. Attendees will leave feeling excited rather than concerned or unsure about implementing this new requirement.

By the end of the webinar, attendees will understand:

  • The ethnic studies requirement and the four ways a school may fulfill the requirement.
  • The definition and general history of ethnic studies.
  • Examples of practical ethnic studies programs and sample lessons.
  • How students benefit from ethnic studies courses that authentically represent the principles of ethnic studies.
