Join us for this comprehensive ethics training webinar that fulfills the state AB 1234 / AB 2158 requirement that all charter school board members be trained by January 1, 2026, and every two years thereafter for a minimum of two hours. This webinar will provide crucial knowledge for effective board governance. This webinar provides charter school board members with thorough instruction on California’s foundational laws regarding public service ethics, transparency, and accountability. Time for questions and answers provided.
Training Highlights:
- Comprehensive Brown Act Overview: Gain a deep understanding of the Brown Act, ensuring your school’s governance is transparent and compliant.
- Conflict of Interest Compliance: Learn how to comply with conflict of interest laws, including common challenges charter schools face, such as hiring relatives or engaging in contracts with organizations tied to the financial interests of your board or staff members. We will explore real-world examples and address issues flagged by granting agencies, district attorneys, and the Fair Political Practices Commission—each of which has played a role in the revocation, non-renewal, or imposition of fines and criminal prosecution of charter school leaders.
- Form 700 Essentials: Get the guidance you need to fill out your Form 700 accurately.
- Laws relating to personal financial gain by public servants, including, but not limited to, laws prohibiting bribery and conflict-of-interest laws.
- Laws relating to the use of public funds, gifts, and claiming perquisites of offices, including, but not limited to, gift restrictions, prohibitions against the use of public resources for personal or political purposes, and prohibitions against gifts of public funds.
- Laws relating to fair processes, including, but not limited to, common law bias prohibitions, due process requirements, incompatible offices, and disqualification from participating in decisions affecting family members.
