Overview

Douglas K. Wood brings a distinguished legal career to Young, Minney & Corr, LLP.

Doug repeatedly has been named one of Northern California’s “Super Lawyers” (a distinction honoring the top five percent of lawyers in the region). In addition, he has been a Martindale-Hubbell “AV-Preeminent” rated trial attorney for decades.

During his 35+ years of practice, Doug has successfully defended clients in a wide variety of complex and high-exposure cases in a variety of contexts, including premises liability, real estate, construction defect, product liability, challenging matters arising from arson fires, and suspected fraudulent insurance claims, property and casualty insurance coverage disputes, insurance subrogation litigation, claims and litigation arising from aircraft incidents and accidents, and general business disputes.

Doug gained early trial experience serving the People of California as a Deputy District Attorney for the County of Alameda.  He tried his first civil case in 1991 and has been successfully litigating and trying cases ever since.

In addition, during most of those 35+ years, Doug also counseled clients regarding various pre-litigation matters, helping them minimize their legal exposures and enhance the chances of a successful outcome, should the issue ultimately result in litigation.  As a natural mentor/trainer, his people skills are essential in working with a wide range of clients and their employees with sensitivity and respect, preparing them to deliver their best under the most stressful circumstances.

Bringing that breadth of experience and industry knowledge to YM&C, Doug now works with Charter Schools to resolve a wide range of complex legal issues and litigate the whole gamut of disputes that arise in that context while continuing to represent and defend other clients in a broad range of liability exposure cases.  He also instructs and regularly presents to clients and industry groups.

Doug is well published, co-authoring a Chapter in “Scientific Evidence and Expert Testimony,” five Chapters in a leading legal treatise, “California Property Insurance: Law and Litigation,” and many other publications.

Doug also is a seasoned instrument-rated private pilot and delights in flying his turbo-normalized Beechcraft Bonanza A36 all over the western states.
