
Overview
Janille works on the YM&C Charter Development Team, focusing on charter establishment, renewal, and revocation defense. She counsels clients regarding charter renewal, petition appeals, student admission and lottery requirements, charter development, governance, and employment policies, and other charter school issues.
Before joining YM&C, Janille worked at two international law firms focusing on complex commercial litigation and government contracts. As an associate, she successfully argued on behalf of clients in court, conducted depositions, and advised clients on the applicability of state and federal regulations and laws. In her pro bono practice, she partnered with a non-profit organization to advocate for children who had been denied equal access to public education.
Janille has experience working as in-house counsel, where she has negotiated and drafted licensing, information technology, consulting, employment, and vendor agreements for tech companies and media entities. She also advised companies on mitigating legal risks concerning intellectual property and labor and employment matters.
Prior to law school, Janille worked as an Education Program Specialist at the U.S. Department of Education, where she administered grants for rural and low-income schools. After obtaining her master’s in education policy from the University of Pennsylvania, she worked as a Legislative Intern in the Education Policy Office of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
At USC Law, Janille was named Champion of the Hale Moot Court Honors Program Competition. She was also awarded the Edward and Eleanor Shattuck Award, which is given to students who have demonstrated the greatest potential for becoming outstanding members of the Bar and whose actions have improved the general quality of life at USC Law.
Janille is a proud alumna of Spelman College, where she was honored to serve as the official college ambassador, Miss Spelman College.
