Overview
For nearly two decades, Kimberly has worked to serve the needs of charter schools, supporting foundations and other nonprofit entities. In her practice, Kimberly has assisted clients with all stages of the nonprofit lifecycle, including entity structuring and restructuring, formation, obtaining state and federal tax exemption and reinstating tax-exempt status, reviving suspended corporate entities, nonprofit operations, and governance, merger, and dissolution. In working with charter school-focused nonprofit organizations, Kimberly has developed the knowledge to guide clients through the complicated interaction of public and private entity laws. Kimberly’s practice area includes conflicts of interest, the California Public Records Act, the Brown Act, and The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Kimberly has successfully advocated for clients before various state and federal agencies, including the California Secretary of State, the Internal Revenue Service, the California Franchise Tax Board, the California Attorney General, the Fair Political Practices Commission, county boards of supervisors, the California Department of Education, and chartering authorities. She has also conducted training sessions and presentations on conflict-of-interest laws, nonprofit organizations, and the California Public Records Act.
