Paul Thies brings almost a decade of legal expertise to education law, specializing in representing public and private agencies and navigating complex legal matters.

Holding a Juris Doctor from Pepperdine Caruso School of Law and a Straus Institute Certificate in Dispute Resolution, Paul has honed his skills in negotiation, trial advocacy, and appellate practice. As a former State Bar of California’s Office of Chief Trial Counsel member, Paul oversaw investigations and negotiated settlements. He conducted trial proceedings, demonstrating his proficiency in handling diverse legal challenges. Additionally, his tenure at the California Department of Justice’s Criminal Division showcased his leadership in coordinating efforts to address complex issues such as international parental child abduction, where he developed innovative mediation programs and contributed to legislative proposals for improved legal processes. As Deputy Attorney General, Paul researched and drafted appellate briefs for criminal appeals, arguing before state and federal courts in over 50 cases, including matters of first impression under de novo review.

His dedication to the legal profession extends beyond his professional responsibilities, as evidenced by his involvement in committees such as the Judicial Elections Evaluation Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Outside of the legal realm, Paul enjoys running, reading, and designing tabletop role-playing games, showcasing a diverse range of interests and talents.
