Charter School Successes to Ring in the New Year!

Happy New Year! Young, Minney & Corr, LLP wishes to kick off 2020 by celebrating some of California charter schools’ successes in the fall of 2019 as a reminder of the positive advances happening in the charter school movement. Young, Minney & Corr, LLP was thrilled and proud to play a role in establishing these new charter schools, charter renewals, and legal successes mentioned below.

September 18 – OCASA College Prep wins unanimous approval to open a new charter high school in Capistrano.

September 24 – Ednovate – East College Prep, James Jordan Middle School, Valley Charter Elementary, Valley Charter Middle, Bert Corona Charter High, and Citizens of the World Hollywood earn renewals in LAUSD.

October 10 – Sebastopol Independent Charter School earns unanimous renewal in its 25th anniversary year.

October 15 – KIPP Empower Academy, KIPP Ignite Academy, KIPP Comienza, KIPP Promesa, Magnolia Science Academy Bell, Palisades Charter High School, Our Community School, and Crown Preparatory Academy earn renewals, and Invictus Leadership Academy become a new charter school, in LAUSD.

October 16 – Pivot Charter School North Valley II earns a five-year renewal in Chico.

October 23 – Agnes J. Johnson Elementary School successfully converted to a Southern Humboldt charter school.

October 29 – Heritage Peak Charter School was unanimously approved for five more years at Twin Rivers Unified.

November 5—Museum School is ready for five more wonderful years after being renewed by the San Diego Unified School District.

November 12 – Delta Elementary Charter School earns renewal for a five-year term in Clarksburg.

November 12—The San Francisco Unified School District has renewed KIPP Bayview Academy and KIPP SF Bay Academy for five years.

November 19 – LAUSD approves Ingenium Charter School’s and Public Policy Charter School’s five-year renewals.

December 9 – Gorman Learning Center San Bernardino/Santa Clarita was unanimously approved for renewal by Lucerne Valley USD.

December 10—The New School of San Francisco receives positive ACCS recommendations for renewal and a material revision to add a middle school.

December 10 – Tracy Independent Study Charter School, a new nonclassroom-based charter school, is approved.

December 10After a seven-day jury trial, YM&C successfully defended a southern California school and several administrators sued by a former student on various tort and contract claims.

December 11 – Clayton Valley Charter High School successfully secured charter renewal after a three-month effort.

December 12 – LAUSD approves Calliope Academy’s establishment charter.

December 12 – NOVA Academy Coachella has a huge turnout to see its charter renewed for five more years.

December 17 – Santa Ana Unified unanimously approves Orange County Educational Arts Academy’s five-year renewal charter.

December 19 – Orange County Classical Academy is approved by Orange Unified School District, with a start date of September 2020.
